Today, companies must increasingly consider the impact that their activities have on the environment. It is therefore important to consciously make the choice that is best not only for your wallet, but also for the planet. Fortunately, it doesn't have to be one or the other. With Fairtual Technologies, you have the best of both worlds.
Let us compare a physical event with a virtual one. This fictitious event will take place over two days and can expect as many as 5000 visitors. In terms of content, there is little or no difference between the two events, as an online event in 3D can replicate the experience of a physical event down to the smallest detail.
Under normal circumstances, 4800 of these visitors will travel to the event by car. The average distance travelled to the exhibition centre is about 80 km. 150 of them will make the trip by train. In addition, 50 of them will travel by air from abroad. In this simulation, we assume that they have taken the flight from London to Brussels. It is therefore valid to assume that these 50 visitors will spend the night in a local hotel.
With a digital event, on the other hand, these factors fall away immediately. Here, visitors can attend the event from just about any location in the world. Not to mention the emissions that setting up a physical event entails, compared to a digital event.
In total, we then arrive at these emissions for both similar events:
As you can see, the emissions from a physical event are much higher. In fact, for just one event of that size, no less than 18 hectares of forest are needed to compensate. Even opting for a hybrid approach would have a huge impact on the environment, since it would mean cutting down on transport.
We are of course aware that not every event can go completely digital. But the more digital or hybrid we start to think, the smaller the ecological impact of the events sector will become.
Fairtual Technologies at least takes responsibility for taking that step in the right direction. Although our carbon footprint is already relatively small, we want to go even further. Therefore we are proud to announce that from now on we will plant trees to fully compensate our emissions per event. In this way, we are doing our bit for a cleaner world.
In addition, we also make sure that all our online platforms are hosted completely green, thanks to Combell. Their commitment to sustainability is therefore a big plus for us.
